Oh, You Russet Brown Wolf God

Crash Magazine | Ash Stymest by Chris Craymer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm super tired (zzzzzzzzzzzzzz) of this whole 'post-racial', coy, double wink 'experimentation' of human versatility as an excuse to showcase black/brownface in the pages of the magazines I buy.

I'm not going to argue or list in detail everything I find at fault with this or any other editorial similar to it (I'm sure you've all read every shade of the argument after last month's controversial Lara Stone editorial), I just wanted to simply point out that Chris Craymer's photoshoot could have easily been replicated with an actual Native American model with no apparent consequence to its art direction or styling.

And that, I think, speaks to a laziness that seems to be pervading the Fashion world with a capital FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

In FFFFFFFFFFFFFact, I think these kind editorials are doing more harm than good. As Ash Stymest stares vacantly into Craymer's lens or Lara Stone leans attractively for Steven Klein all I can suss out from the pages is what everyone already knows. The shock value? The painfully 'avant garde' themes? They're not actually surprising. I already know that in the fashion world beauty is always white even when its not.
